National Summer Steamup 2009 – Saturday-Sunday

  Henner Meinhold’s scratch-built logging loco.   Duke Nguyen begins the prep on his Aster loco.   Two Accucraft locos pace one another around the track.
  Tom King’s Shay has a slightly green engineer.   Carl Malone, left, watches over Grover Cleveland as coal is inserted into the 7/8ths-scale locomotive.   This engineer’s face has a scowl that’s hardened by years of running.
  Curtis McCarthy and his Accucraft SP switcher, pulling boxcars. Tony and Pat Dixon are in the background.   No. 4 flashes around the Brink track.   Chris Scott is intent as he gets his loco ready on the PCLS track.
  Dan Fuller looks over the shoulder of his wife, Judy, as she fires up an engine.   Bill Turkel apparently doesn’t want his picture taken.   Kevin Schindler is just damn happy to be at the Summer Steamup.
  Jim McDavid starts to work on his Aster Schools.   ShayUp: Sonny Wizelman exhorts participants to get with the program.   ShayUp: Mark Scrivener gasses up his Shay, while his son Caleb watches the engine just to the left.
  ShayUp: Engineers keep the line of Shays chugging along.   ShayUp: Dan Pantages pumps water into his Shay as Terry Jalkemo looks over his shoulder.   ShayUp: The engines round the bend.
  BBQ: Some diners chose to sit and wait until the buffet line got a little shorter.   BBQ: Waiting in the buffet line gave many more time to share steaming secrets.   BBQ: Comments from diners contained almost no complaints, with most praising the food.
  BBQ: After dinner, a chance to sit and talk.   Sunday morning, David Leech gets a chance to run his modified Aster.   A Duchess at rest on Sunday morning.
